SBRP: NIH-Supported Short-Term Biomedical Research Training Program

SBRP for Early-Branch Students (GY2026 Cohort): Application Deadline, October 31, 2024

SBRP will pay approximately $4,300 as a stipend for 8 weeks of research. To participate in the program, you must take a research elective (Course: MEDADM 8448) as a consecutive 8-week block in either Jan/Feb, Feb/March or April/May of 2025.

Students must submit a research proposal online by October 31, 2024. The program funds all types of research including basic science, clinical research, outcomes research, education research, device innovation etc. as long as it is hypothesis driven.

The proposal has a student and mentor section (see below). First, the student completes the proposal online which is then forwarded to the mentor who approves the proposal and completes their section. Once both sections are complete, the proposals will be reviewed by a selection committee. We are authorized to fund 32 positions from NIH funds and will fund any additional students not selected to receive NIH funding at the same level from other funds.

The award will be paid to you as a stipend. If you are receiving maximal financial aid, the award may be applied against your loans rather than paid as a stipend. If you think this might apply to you contact medfinaid@umich.edu

Students on LOA are not eligible for the program.  MSTP students are not eligible for the program as they are supported by another NIH grant.

If you have any questions about the program, please contact Ben Margolis (bmargoli@med.umich.edu).
